Mango- Philippines’ sweetest delight



This exotic tropical fruit popularly known to be yellow in color obtained its addictive taste through its meticulous harvest procedures. It matures after 3 months and a half from the time of its flower blooms, carefully handpicked while still green and harvested between 9am- 3pm to prevent rapid exudation of the latex. Mature mangoes turned fully ripe from 6-12 days after harvest. Timing is important for transporting this fruit as it is highly perishable. Keeping it refrigerated at 10 degrees Celsius remains green for 2 weeks.

It is a wonder fruit of versatile ways to enjoy its taste. Green mango can be served as a salad component, while golden yellow mango has varieties of ways to savor its uniqueness. It can be served as plain, processed, dried or frozen, this delicious fruit is world known for its sweetest character. Ripened by the heat of tropical sun, this wonder fruit is a perfect dessert served in many ways.

Considered “Fruit of the Gods”, Philippine Mango is well-known worldwide for its best qualities, which cannot be outshined by any variety of mangoes around the globe.

Aetas are descendants of a race of people who are believed to have first settled in the Philippines 25,000 to 30,000 years ago using land bridges between the Philippines and mainland Asia. (It has been theorized that during the Ice Age, the waters around the Philippines fell to around 156 feet below its level resulting in the exposure of large areas of land that served as land bridges between the Philippines and mainland Asia.) The last Aeta migration to the Philippines is believed to have occurred between 12,000 to 15,000 years ago. The Aetas are generally shorter than most Filipinos and are usually of darker skin.

Bataan Death March

Bataan Death March- forced march of 70,000 Filipino and American prisoners of war captured by the Japanese in the Philippines during world war II. Starting out from Mariveles, at the southern end of Bataan Peninsula, on April 9, 1942, these soldiers were forced-marched 88 km to San Fernando Pampanga, then taken by trail to Capas, from there they walked for the remaining 13 km to Camp O’Donnell. They were tortured, starved and often kicked or beaten on their way. Those who fell were bayoneted. Around 7,000- 10,000 perished on the way while some were able to scape to the jungle. Only 54,000 reached the camp.

After the war, the Japanese commander who led the invasion of the Philippines, Gen. Homma Masaharu was charged by the U.S. military commission in Manila on February 1946 as the one responsible for the death march. Convicted, he was executed on April 3.

(1848-1928)

Mother of Biak-na-Bato. Born in San Miguel, Bulacan, on November 18, 1848. Even though women-members of the Katipunan were exempted from the pact, she participated in Sanduguan(blood compact). She fought fearlessly in 12 bloody battles of the revolution in Bulacan, including the famous Battle of Biak-na-Bato. Later, she became known as The Mother of the Philippine Red Cross. Died on June 28, 1928.

All educated pinoy Spanish era hero was a Freemason. Even the Katipunan was modeled after this organization.
