I have to just include this here. As there are more than 1500 registered cockpits all over the Philippines as well as unregistered ones. The arenas/coliseums are always full of patrons. SOme of these are open for half the week and yet others are open the whole week.

This is an industry in itself.

After every match, you literally see thousands of pesos flying above you exchanging hands and not even one fight will break out. And it seems all money is accounted for. Amazing.

Have any of you ever experienced this sabong sport first hand? Or even off hand via a father, ucnle, grandfather, or brother, etc. ?

I am just amazed at just how big and how it has become mainstream. Almost every publicly recognized person is into this sport.

Even the Ms. Philippines winners of beauty contests are present at the Araneta Coliseum to present the winning trophies during the big time invitational derbies.

What are your comments regarding this Philippine National Past time? Either positive or negative. I just want to know. Perhaps I have started a taboo topic but I am just amazed with this phenomenal sport perhaps because I live in the United States where it is illegal.

Its not illegal all over US. I know a few people that go to Louisiana go fight their roosters.

Louisiana is one of the states where it is legal. What other states is it legal?

Wala na yatang legal cockfighting sa US ngayon . The last state ive heard na legal is only Arizona and not till 1997 they passes a bill to illegalized it .

Sabong is to Filipinos as baseball is to Americans , pastime ika nga and to think that cockfighting is an expensive hobby , marami pa rin ang nakikisali , mahihirap man o mayaman . By the way , walang panalo sa manok , talagang HOBBY lang ito . Kahit champion ka sa derby , the money u invested and time spent is nothing sa mapapanalunan mo . tambayan/05.gif

I must admit there is nothing like it out there.

For the sabongeros out there alam nyo na ibig sabihin ko since this is our hobby. Just got back from the Philippines and saw the World Slasher Derby at the Araneta Coliseum...the Olympics of cockfighting in the whole world.

Fought a few gamefowls myself. And surprisingly I'm on the plus side.

I look forward again next time as I still have about 9 aged 4 years old gamefowls to try out.

To me and my gentleman sabongero friends I choose none other.

Aint nothing like a sabongero.
